Morris Park Crew Feedback

It feels real good to have a truly old school, back in the day, boogie down Bronx New York MPC crew member such as Slip MPC understand and embrace the different things that I have been doing over my graffiti career. To me, it speaks volumes to have someone recognize your efforts that has been there for the train era in the 80s and has been witnessing and involved in graffiti culture since before I was able to wipe my own ass!

You can see the MPC blog here!

Thank you for the props bro! It means a lot to me!

Live Painting at NY Red Bull Air Race

Red Bull Air Race:
When: June 19th and 20th
Where: Liberty State Park, Jersey City, NJ.

The honor has been bestowed upon Mare139 and myself to be the first artists to paint live at a Red Bull event of this high of a caliber.

Red Bull Air Race has chosen us for their first ever New York Red Bull Air Race to be staged at Liberty State Park in Jersey City New Jersey (planes racing and flying over the Hudson River between New York and New Jersey). I must say this is the most beautiful and awe inspiring backdrop they could have ever chosen for this spectacular event. They have done this all over the world and I feel I am blessed to be the first artist to do this live painting with friend and accomplished artist Mare139.

I will post more pictures and edit a short video for you soon after the event is over. For now I posted a few set up shots of what was going on behind the scenes on one of the set up days.

You can get tickets for the event online and you can find more details for this event online aswell!

Its gorgeous out and I am excited to see if they will be broadcasting any of the live painting we will be doing on FOX Sports.

Eaz x SubZero

SubZERO in San Jose California on Friday, June 5 was an overwhelming success. 10,000 people took in the sites and sounds of this indie street festival.

I decided to combine spray paint with airbrushing to give the crowd at this event something to look at. I wanted to paint something that had nothing to do with graffiti for this one. I had a good time talking and building with some really great people during the event as well.

As the event progressed DeBug Magazine decided to project video of me on the side of the building while I was painting live which was quite flattering!

King Tech x Eaz

I remember back like 7 or 8 years ago I copped a “Extreme Hip Hop” sample collection that King Tech put out through Logic before Apple bought them out. I still have these samples floating around in my audio samples library. Full circle!

The legendary King Tech (from the world famous duo Sway and King Tech) and I are currently building on some “next level” projects sure to raise some eyebrows!

Don’t sleep and stay tuned!

Serve Feedback

Here is an excerpt from my interview on FatCap.com about my home boy and fellow FBA crew member SERVE from the Boogie Down Bronx.

“Serve in my opinion does not get the play he absolutely deserves in graffiti. He is a style master extraordinaire. He does a lot of outlines for a lot of NY writers. He is straight up FBA to the fullest. His style oozes just enough old school flavor for today’s eyes to see.”

Here is what he had to say about the new Wild Style Lettering DVD.

“The dvd is great. It’s good on how you broke down each letter in the alphabet for those who want to learn how to do letters. My segment came out good and thanks for editing out the crazy shit we were really sayin. lol. Ces’ segment was good too. So i hope it does well for you bro. These DVDs will help many out there that really want to learn about the true way of doing Graff. Fuck those who say you’re revealing too many secrets. They say that because, they know if the up and comings figure it out, in a few years, they’ll burn the shit out of them. Once again thanks for putting me into the video. -SERVE”

Thats whats up bro! People are not ready for the next generation of graffiti heads! Look already everyday new people get into it and put their twist on what they want to get fame on. The facets are endless and getting up aint what it used to be! The hate is fuel bro and I will always go against the grain in one for or fashion! FBA all day!

Feedback from Thailand

“What the dvd is selling for is far to cheap for all the knowledge and the skills your showing people and i love it becuase it makes you feel for the first time ever that your actually inside a great writers head and you get to see the way he sketches and paints and why his style is just so increadbly sick .. I love the part when you say “you can use this video as a point of reference and not ask anybody shit” that was one of the coolest things i ever heard in my life. . and its so true !!!!!!!!( i use it as one everyday) everybody i heard from said ” after you watch this video you will make a bad ass sketch” and its so god dam true i made the baddest sketch ive ever made after watching your video .. to me i treat your dvd like a bible full of knowledge. ive been writing for a couple years on and off but people noticed a dramit increase in my skills just recently and i have you to thank for it !!!! i mean i have my favorite writers world wide but nobody just blows people away like you can its amazing … Originally from las vegas nevada but now i moved to thailand so its hard to get a hold of alot of things.. but the kewl thing is graffiti is looked at as pure art over here… but so i just been painting non stop trying to get to your level and listened to what you said in your dvd…. thats the thing i watched people skecth and paint back home in vegas before but never saw or listened to anybody really break it down the way you did… i just wana say thank you for making the dvd.. i ordered it and i cant wait till it comes !!!!!!!!!!”

Thanks man! The second DVD “Wild Style Lettering” is just as good if not better! Be on the look out and check your mail because its on its way!

Giant x The Future of Graffiti

I have been following GIANT’s work for quite some years now and he is definitely one of the few writer’s I have a lot of respect for. From his unique and unruly looking characters to his mastery of letters, all ultra steeped in graffiti and tattoo cultures. It really seemed fitting and an absolute honor that he be on my next DVD. His killer skills, styles and keen eye for composition are an inspiration and make his work a force to be reckoned with and a true master of his craft.

So the cat is now officially out of the bag.

The 3rd DVD is…
The Future of Graffiti : Black Book Sessions

GIANT getting down with this project and understanding how important this is for our culture as a whole is another validation of my sweat and countless hours I have dedicated to The Future of Graffiti DVD Series.

I believe every artist or fan of this graffiti culture should be afforded the luxury to see how this type of work actually gets done. It takes years to this and not just anyone can get busy like the big dogs do! I am not insinuating that I can compare to any of our renaissance masters but can you imagine how sick it would have been to have footage of Leonardo DaVinci drawing or footage of Michealangelo while he painted?

As for the core of the DVD, I go through a full color black book session from start to end. Character, background and all out wild style burner. I will cover all the aspects of completing an all out black book session from tools, tricks to techniques. I am still hashing out all the cool bonuses in the coming weeks. Stay tuned!

Make sure you visit Rebel 8 or Giant’s site at mikegiant.com

Mare 139 Feedback

Firstly if you have no idea who this very respected and world famous New York style writer Mare 139 is please do yourself the favor and educate yourself. You can read a brief bio written by Henry Chalfant (the man behind the classic documentary “Style Wars“) on Mare 139.

This was taken from his original blog on 12ozprophet.com

“EAZ One has produced what I consider a significant modern Style Writing (graffiti) reference that lifts the veil from the once sacred art of Style Writing and spray painting. His 2 volume DVD collection The Future of Graffiti – Wild Style Lettering and Painting Techniques showcases his unique talents not just as a graffiti muralist but as an accomplished 3D animator and producer, this hybrid talent shows how far artists of this genre have evolved. In the sci fi introduction to the DVD I got the sense that he means what he titles the future of Graffiti in which the future knows no boundaries but will still be looking back to its glorious past and traditions in order to move forward.

He lays out some good foundations about harnessing the essentials of lettering styles by breaking down forms and functions of connections as well as how it relates to typography, this was something I especially liked in the animation how he translated a type face to the the wild style letter he drafted. This is helpful in understanding the decoding of names as well as constructing them. I would have liked a more in-depth connection to typography and terminology as this is also a very relative association to todays art schooled writers. For a veteran like myself who still practices the art of Style Writing I found his approach easy and well balanced, his explanation of his particular style methods and his openness to interpretation made his work available to me to build on, this is a key thing since writers tend to act like they have the holy grail of style writing under lock and key. Knowing that we build upon our history and that no one is totally original as he points out makes these lessons invaluable if his intent is understood. His emphasis on reworking letters from many angles and reinterpreting letters from each other is also a little underestimated technique which I find even I dont utilize as I should.

For a novice this is a high recommendation, its a good overview and reference to build upon whether you like EAZ’s lettering style or not, this is about critical foundation lessons that we all have developed in our style over the many years of writing history. As a seasoned writer I appreciate his effort to educate and share the art form in this format which is for our time. I myself was educated on trains and blackbooks and had a small photo file to learn from as well as the apprenticeships with style masters like Kel First, Dondi, Duro, and others, this DVD set would constitute an apprenticeship reference that a young artist can return to over and over again.

His painting techniques are well documented as are his productions and collaborations with top writers like Ces and Serve, there is no disputing this mans talent and desire to keep the art moving forward and he wants us all along for the ride. I dont paint or care for it as much as Style Writing but after viewing this DVD I gained a bit of confidence to try something different. Anyone who picks up the lessons should not expect to be at his level- that said it should provide you with the necessary background of the do’s and dont’s.

Considering how I came into this art form in the mid 70s and to where we are now I am rather impressed at the dedication of EAZ in putting out this professional quality production that is a focused effort to understand style writing the most valued and innovative aspect of the genre.

Each One Teach One

Go cop it.”

I am truly honored to be recognized by a well established and revered artist such as yourself. Your understanding as to why I make these DVDs brings me a true feeling of validation. I hope to keep bringing this series forward to hopefully inspire the future of graffiti.

Thank you Mare 139 for your words of wisdom brother!!!

Bombing Science Feedback

“Peace Eaz One!

Good looking out on the new Future of Graff Vol 2. I did the knowledge on both dvds and its all wisdom, its dope how you break down the math behind it. The music is pretty dope as well and very appropriate for the movie.

I currently work at the BombingScience warehouse and your dvd sells like crazy, the most popular item/package during this holiday season is the Future of Graff 2 combined withe 840 OTR markers. That pack gets picked many times a day. Being shipped all over Canada, USA, all the way to Australia and New Zealand…but you know that already.

Keep doing your thang, your shits on point! On point like a barbwire fence! LOL….I’ll be looking forward for that volume 3. If you come through Montréal again, holla at me for a wall or a blunt session.

Peace!”

Thanks bro!! Its great to hear that the DVD is doing very well. I am making my way back soon enough! I love Montreal! Keep that paint warm!

Feedback

I have gotten many emails over the years but this recent one stood out to me…

“First off let me say thanks for takin a minute to read this, i’m sure you get alot of emails from alot of people about nothing…you got like 6000+ friends on here and i cant imagine the messages you’d get daily…i have 2000+ and i get way too many , ” yo keep whats up?” or , ” what’s good?” …thats it!hahahah ….anyways bro, I want to start by sayin i really never knew too much about who you are/were as a writer before i saw an article about your new dvd on Bombing science.com…At first , when i heard the title and the actual concept behind the dvd , I knew it was something i would be into due to tha fact wildstyle is something I pride myself on….so i copped it tha day BS got it in stock…. completely not what i expected….when i threw the dvd in an started it I didnt think the approach would be “Doing the alphabet, simply front to back in an individual letter sketch form…it threw me off and was almost a let down…Being an established writer , I already knew what to use, what tools ,I myself ,prefer to use …and all tha techniques in gettin my final results in a sketch…so when i saw the beginning of the DVD, i was unsure the rest of the dvd would be worth my time…………I was in this mindstate until i tossed aside the natural personal ego as another established artist , and started looking at your whole concept and purpose for doing this in a dvd….now i fully appreciate and respect the time and efforts you have put into , and or , risked critisism for , in doing this “HOW TO” type dvd…..Nobody has really done it before , and to someone who is somewhat new to graffiti , this dvd gets rid of every excuse for graffiti itself to not step up skill levels around the world…this gives everyone tha basics right away and gets rid of the “guessing” what to do step when you first take a shine for graffiti culture…Having my own set “rules and principals” in the way i sketch and layout my stuff , and then watching your methods , the similarities are pretty cool to see….i dont know if its the fact that I base my style and whole career on NYC style stuff , taking influences from witers like Ces , Cope ,Seen and more…maybe that pulls the way i can relate so much to what you do together ? or maybe its that when you write for so many years , wherever your ffrom and wherever you take influence from , after so long , every writer realises that the way you sketch , is the most efficient with any writer and any style? whatever it is I love the fact that you did this flick and having not heard about the first dvd you did , I will be coppin it soon…I think even though two writers are both on the same page ,so to speak , there will always be something to learn that will improve the others techniques and/or style , on both accounts….after i got through the alphabet , by the end , i was actually let down that you didnt get into more…an thats real talk… i think you could have gone into numbers , 3-d formats , perspective a little more in depth..but i know the time and effort that you put into this already and im sure it was alot to take on already …..when i checked the bonus footage it was cool to see the extra input from ces an serve. you would never get a chance to see ces sketch in an intimate setting like that any other day , and it gives alot of young writers insight and almost backs up what your telling people to the fullest it could be backed up…so i thought that was cool to do for sure! finally , when it got to the actual walls you did , i was floored…i had seen those pieces before online , but never knew or took the time to really know the writer behind them….yet…..i always check whats new an fresh going on around tha scene online….but seeing those walls painted on video wa better than any flick or even seeing tha wall finished in person….you are a really talented artist and I learned alot just from that 10 minutes of live painting footage. because there are alot of writers that paint th way you paint that i envy…im trying to apply alot of the techniques that you and other writers are doing to my own form and seeing it done helps seeing as how nobody i paint with really paints that way…by this i mean you arent strict with your first outline , sketching your outline on the wall….i usually commit to my first outline and have it solid and perfect before i even fill , then fill very carefully so to not wreck the original outline , so i dont have to do it over twice…is hard to explain in words…but basically im trying to relax on my “perfectionisms” and be a little more free and unruly while building my pieces….i see revok paints like that alot as well…as well as ewok ….more of a carefree , throw it up on tha wall quick because the initial layers dont need to be perfect because they arent the final image….again , hard to explain…so the utmost respect big homie…thanks alot for doing this dvd , although it will appeal to newer writers , i think if anyone watches this , a real writer should be able to take something away from it to try and apply to thier own style and form….

KEEPSIX – The Stompdown Killaz”

This was my response…..

“wow bro thank you for taking the time to write me like this. it is honestly the longest letter i have ever gotten and you actually said something. I appreciate you telling me how you felt as far as my over all approach to the DVDs. I agree on alot of what you say and consider your opinion a valid one judging from your work. the things i left in and left out were very conscious and deliberate. i struggled for over a year with what i wanted to see and what and was not relevant. The first dvd was a sort of blanket that covered alot of basics. This new dvd was strictly about style and style alone. 3d is not style to me. numbers and other things can be derived from what i went over in the main sessions. etc etc. Everything else that was not related to style was an extra (like the inking…which was almost not even extra…i use inking to solidify and make a letter piece come through clearer to myself, like more to life?). Confusing people with 3d for example was not on going to work with this DVD. I wanted to laser focus on wild style and what I do to come to my final outlines.

The reason for the initial let down when I spoke about “The tools” I use for drawing and sketching are simple. Not everyone is even aware that these tools make life easier in many ways when it comes to sketching and refining. You are already are using these tools! I didnt feel like it was appropriate to explain and have to second let people guess what I was using as the dvd progressed. I didnt think that was fair to the viewer. You can imagine how many people since 2005 have asked me what “tools” I was using for the first dvd.

I am really glad you also touched on seeing me paint. I did that because when I saw other people paint that I respected it blew my mind. Its really different when you see someone painting that has been painting for years. It was like I unlocked something special that I wanted to explore to the fullest. It was years of “I can do this!!!! and I can do that!!!!” sort of passion and excitement for graffiti that fueled my creativity to the utmost. Where else could someone get inspired to paint that lives in an area that has no scene or any established writers to watch paint or even remotely be cool with or even know? I did this for that person and anyone else that is willing to let in anything that I had to say and show.

I get emails all the time, like you said, and the majority dont get a response this lengthy at all. I felt compelled to do so since I can see that you are doing things and have been making your name already. I felt obligated to do so. I like your work and I know you have the bug already. I know Im gonna see more of your work in the future already.

Thanks for contacting me brother!!!! ”

After this email I received I sat and saw what this guy does and I like it. On top of having a great humble approach, his style and work is very dope which makes him even more of a cool dude in my book. You can see more of his work here on his myspace. Expect to see a lot of dope work, evolution and progress from this guy. Thanks for the feedback bro!!
