It feels real good to have a truly old school, back in the day, boogie down Bronx New York MPC crew member such as Slip MPC understand and embrace the different things that I have been doing over my graffiti career. To me, it speaks volumes to have someone recognize your efforts that has been there for the train era in the 80s and has been witnessing and involved in graffiti culture since before I was able to wipe my own ass!

You can see the MPC blog here!

I must say this is the most beautiful and awe inspiring backdrop they could have ever chosen for this spectacular event. They have done this all over the world and I feel I am blessed to be the first artist to do this live painting with friend and accomplished artist Mare139.

SubZERO in San Jose California on Friday, June 5 was an overwhelming success. 10,000 people took in the sites and sounds of this indie street festival.

I decided to combine spray paint with airbrushing to give the crowd at this event something to look at. I wanted to paint something that had nothing to do with graffiti for this one. I had a good time talking and building with some really great people during the event as well.

As the event progressed DeBug Magazine decided to project video of me on the side of the building while I was painting live which was quite flattering!

My girl makes some sick ass sugar skulls/accessories that we made available for this event. These two were “hella” feeling the vibe so they decided to pose for a quick photo!

These sick lighters my girl helped me put together sold like hot cakes at the event!

More hotcakes…

My girl has the quality craftsmanship straight from the Skulltry lab! These were also available at the event. She had only one left at the end of the night! Success!

Here is an excerpt from my interview on FatCap.com about my home boy and fellow FBA crew member SERVE from the Boogie Down Bronx.

“Serve in my opinion does not get the play he absolutely deserves in graffiti. He is a style master extraordinaire. He does a lot of outlines for a lot of NY writers. He is straight up FBA to the fullest. His style oozes just enough old school flavor for today’s eyes to see.”

Here is what he had to say about the new Wild Style Lettering DVD.

“The dvd is great. It’s good on how you broke down each letter in the alphabet for those who want to learn how to do letters. My segment came out good and thanks for editing out the crazy shit we were really sayin. lol. Ces’ segment was good too. So i hope it does well for you bro. These DVDs will help many out there that really want to learn about the true way of doing Graff. Fuck those who say you’re revealing too many secrets. They say that because, they know if the up and comings figure it out, in a few years, they’ll burn the shit out of them. Once again thanks for putting me into the video. -SERVE”

Thats whats up bro! People are not ready for the next generation of graffiti heads! Look already everyday new people get into it and put their twist on what they want to get fame on. The facets are endless and getting up aint what it used to be! The hate is fuel bro and I will always go against the grain in one for or fashion! FBA all day!

“What the dvd is selling for is far to cheap for all the knowledge and the skills your showing people and i love it becuase it makes you feel for the first time ever that your actually inside a great writers head and you get to see the way he sketches and paints and why his style is just so increadbly sick .. I love the part when you say “you can use this video as a point of reference and not ask anybody shit” that was one of the coolest things i ever heard in my life. . and its so true !!!!!!!!( i use it as one everyday) everybody i heard from said ” after you watch this video you will make a bad ass sketch” and its so god dam true i made the baddest sketch ive ever made after watching your video .. to me i treat your dvd like a bible full of knowledge. ive been writing for a couple years on and off but people noticed a dramit increase in my skills just recently and i have you to thank for it !!!! i mean i have my favorite writers world wide but nobody just blows people away like you can its amazing … Originally from las vegas nevada but now i moved to thailand so its hard to get a hold of alot of things.. but the kewl thing is graffiti is looked at as pure art over here… but so i just been painting non stop trying to get to your level and listened to what you said in your dvd…. thats the thing i watched people skecth and paint back home in vegas before but never saw or listened to anybody really break it down the way you did… i just wana say thank you for making the dvd.. i ordered it and i cant wait till it comes !!!!!!!!!!”

Thanks man! The second DVD “Wild Style Lettering” is just as good if not better! Be on the look out and check your mail because its on its way!

I have been following GIANT’s work for quite some years now and he is definitely one of the few writer’s I have a lot of respect for. From his unique and unruly looking characters to his mastery of letters, all ultra steeped in graffiti and tattoo cultures. It really seemed fitting and an absolute honor that he be on my next DVD. His killer skills, styles and keen eye for composition are an inspiration and make his work a force to be reckoned with and a true master of his craft.

So the cat is now officially out of the bag.

The 3rd DVD is…
The Future of Graffiti : Black Book Sessions

GIANT getting down with this project and understanding how important this is for our culture as a whole is another validation of my sweat and countless hours I have dedicated to The Future of Graffiti DVD Series.

I believe every artist or fan of this graffiti culture should be afforded the luxury to see how this type of work actually gets done. It takes years to this and not just anyone can get busy like the big dogs do! I am not insinuating that I can compare to any of our renaissance masters but can you imagine how sick it would have been to have footage of Leonardo DaVinci drawing or footage of Michealangelo while he painted?

As for the core of the DVD, I go through a full color black book session from start to end. Character, background and all out wild style burner. I will cover all the aspects of completing an all out black book session from tools, tricks to techniques. I am still hashing out all the cool bonuses in the coming weeks. Stay tuned!

Make sure you visit Rebel 8 or Giant’s site at mikegiant.com

Firstly if you have no idea who this very respected and world famous New York style writer Mare 139 is please do yourself the favor and educate yourself. You can read a brief bio written by Henry Chalfant (the man behind the classic documentary “Style Wars“) on Mare 139.
This was taken from his original blog on 12ozprophet.com

“EAZ One has produced what I consider a significant modern Style Writing (graffiti) reference that lifts the veil from the once sacred art of Style Writing and spray painting. His 2 volume DVD collection The Future of Graffiti – Wild Style Lettering and Painting Techniques showcases his unique talents not just as a graffiti muralist but as an accomplished 3D animator and producer, this hybrid talent shows how far artists of this genre have evolved. In the sci fi introduction to the DVD I got the sense that he means what he titles the future of Graffiti in which the future knows no boundaries but will still be looking back to its glorious past and traditions in order to move forward.

He lays out some good foundations about harnessing the essentials of lettering styles by breaking down forms and functions of connections as well as how it relates to typography, this was something I especially liked in the animation how he translated a type face to the the wild style letter he drafted. This is helpful in understanding the decoding of names as well as constructing them. I would have liked a more in-depth connection to typography and terminology as this is also a very relative association to todays art schooled writers. For a veteran like myself who still practices the art of Style Writing I found his approach easy and well balanced, his explanation of his particular style methods and his openness to interpretation made his work available to me to build on, this is a key thing since writers tend to act like they have the holy grail of style writing under lock and key. Knowing that we build upon our history and that no one is totally original as he points out makes these lessons invaluable if his intent is understood. His emphasis on reworking letters from many angles and reinterpreting letters from each other is also a little underestimated technique which I find even I dont utilize as I should.

For a novice this is a high recommendation, its a good overview and reference to build upon whether you like EAZ’s lettering style or not, this is about critical foundation lessons that we all have developed in our style over the many years of writing history. As a seasoned writer I appreciate his effort to educate and share the art form in this format which is for our time. I myself was educated on trains and blackbooks and had a small photo file to learn from as well as the apprenticeships with style masters like Kel First, Dondi, Duro, and others, this DVD set would constitute an apprenticeship reference that a young artist can return to over and over again.

His painting techniques are well documented as are his productions and collaborations with top writers like Ces and Serve, there is no disputing this mans talent and desire to keep the art moving forward and he wants us all along for the ride. I dont paint or care for it as much as Style Writing but after viewing this DVD I gained a bit of confidence to try something different. Anyone who picks up the lessons should not expect to be at his level- that said it should provide you with the necessary background of the do’s and dont’s.

Considering how I came into this art form in the mid 70s and to where we are now I am rather impressed at the dedication of EAZ in putting out this professional quality production that is a focused effort to understand style writing the most valued and innovative aspect of the genre.

Each One Teach One

Go cop it.”
I am truly honored to be recognized by a well established and revered artist such as yourself. Your understanding as to why I make these DVDs brings me a true feeling of validation. I hope to keep bringing this series forward to hopefully inspire the future of graffiti.
